Course Description
This
is a one day training course designed for people who want to improve their
communication skills, with particular emphasis on being part of a team.
The course will cover questioning and listening skills, the impact of body
language, how we build rapport with the people we deal with - even in difficult
situations and interact effectively in team meetings.
The
topics below represent a suggested course content.
However these can be adapted to meet specific objectives
Course Contents
- Communication Process Overview
A look at simple graphical models of communication and
the different variables in each part.
Explanation of the differences of Persuasive
Communication from informational communication and how this informs our
approach. The important factors in Persuasive Communication.
A look at all kinds of demographic and psychological
differences. Understanding your audience and understanding how they see
you. The importance of 'source credibility'. Choice of media and
audience driven media selection and emphasis.
Looking at self-image, giving instructions, involving
role-play about aggressive, submissive and assertive behaviour and how to give
instructions. Guarding against assumption. Emphasis on speaking
and projecting emotion.
Why listening should be the first consideration.
Seeking first to understand then to be understood. How to listen
effectively - types of listening including empathy, counsel and circularity.
- Body Language and Nonverbal Communication
Getting the right perspective on the awareness, use and
interpretation of body language, without becoming oversensitive. The
dominant effect of nonverbal communication. Why body language will
betray your words if there is a conflict. Face, Posture, Gestures, Tone,
Touch, Dress, Surroundings, Timing, Use of Personal Space.
Dealing with difficult/hostile situations - situation
appropriate guidelines for interpersonal or small group conflict
management. Conflict review and prevention systems. Understanding
how conflict links with individuality and types.
